The best way to find out if your rim brake bike can work with Skarper’s kit is to contact us and we will link you to a local bike shop who will gladly make all the arrangements. This way, you can enjoy the bike that you love while adding an electric motor when you want it.

REAR TRIANGLE FEATURES

Skarper has been designed to fit almost all bikes
but does require certain clearances

Some features make Skarper difficult to fit.

If your bike has a geometry similar to the one shown, Skarper should fit.

However, if your frame has additional elements or a more complicated design, Reach out, and we’ll confirm whether your bike is Skarper-compatible.

Dropout Geometry

We’ve designed Skarper to fit most bike frames on the market. However, some frames with more complex geometry may pose a challenge. When checking if Skarper is compatible with your bike, please pay close attention to the chainstay and rear triangle

If your bike has a geometry similar to the one shown, Skarper should fit.

Kickstands on your chainstay
Will need to be removed

Chainstay Mounting plates
If your bike has a welded mounting plate on the chainstay then this may potentially prevent Skarper mounting to the disk.

Reach out, and we’ll confirm whether your bike is Skarper-compatible.

Panniers, Racks, and Mudguards

If you have panniers, racks, or mudguards mounted low at the same height as the wheel’s axle, they may interfere with attaching Skarper and could need to be removed in order to use Skarper.

SPECIFIC CONSIDERATIONS

Skarper fits standard rear wheel hubs

Skarper was designed to fit all standard rear wheel hubs. However, with some specialist hubs such as Rohloffs, Skarper may not fit.

Reach out, and we’ll confirm whether your bike is Skarper-compatible.

Skarper’s disc rotor is 160mm only

Skarper currently comes with a 160mm rotor only. Even if your bike has 140mm or 180mm disc, most bikes can fit a 160mm rotor with simple adaption. A bike mechanic should be able to check and adjust your rear caliper to accept a 160mm rotor or confirm in the unlikely event that your rotor is not compatible.

Reach out, and we’ll confirm whether your bike is Skarper-compatible.

SKARPER WILL NOT FIT PROPERLY

IF ANY OF THE FOLLOWING APPLY:

This is because Skarper will clash with the pedal. If your chainstay is shorter – measure the distance from the axle to the edge of the crank in its rear horizontal position. If it is more than 220 mm, Skarper should fit.

As Skarper is pedal assist, attaching Skarper to a fixie bike can be dangerous. As long as the wheel keeps on pedalling the modor will continue to provide assistance

Skarper has been designed to work safely when connected to normal bicycles and not been tested with eBikes.

Rohloff hubs are wider than the industry standard and therefore DiskDrive disk brake rotors cannot be installed on bikes with Rohloff hubs.

Skarper was not designed to fit with tricycles with two wheels in the back. It was designed for a bike with single rear wheel. If your tricycle has two wheels at the front Skarper may fit. As long as the rest of the conditions above applies, and the rear of the bike behaves like a normal bicycle.

Skarper was designed for wheels from 26”-29”. As the speed controller measures speed at the wheel, using Skarper will wheels above 29” will result in Skarper providing assistance above the speed limit, making your eBike not road legal and therefore it is forbidden to do so unless on private roads.
